One of the fastest-grow­ing in the world, the renew­able ener­gy sec­tor employed 11.5 mil­lion work­ers world­wide in 2019. In Cana­da, accord­ing to Clean Energy’s 2021 report, the cur­rent work­force in the sec­tor sits at 430,500 peo­ple, a num­ber pro­ject­ed to grow almost 50% to 639,200 by 2030. Alber­ta, how­ev­er, is the province poised to see the most impres­sive growth, with jobs set to increase a huge 164% over the next decade.

The Renew­able Ener­gy Tech­nolo­gies Cer­tifi­cate aims to fill the short­age for knowl­edge­able and skilled pro­fes­sion­als for the grow­ing sec­tor of clean energy. 

In this pro­gram, you will under­stand the prin­ci­ples of oper­at­ing the broad spec­trum of renew­able ener­gy tech­nolo­gies as well as artic­u­late the tech­ni­cal chal­lenges for each of the renew­able sources and get updat­ed on the major inno­va­tions and chal­lenges in the industry.

This pro­gram will be of spe­cial inter­est to those who want to devel­op, man­age, or improve their under­stand­ing of the rapid­ly evolv­ing clean ener­gy sec­tor. This includes, among oth­ers, envi­ron­men­tal pro­fes­sion­als, project man­agers, indus­try exec­u­tives, devel­op­ers, and investors inter­est­ed in expand­ing their career or busi­ness with renew­able energy.

No prerequisites; working experience in a related area is recommended but not required. It is also recommended that participants have completed high school and are proficient in English.

Complete the Renewable Energy Technologies Certificate and be eligible to write the Sustainable Energy Technologies Professional Exam (administered by the Foundational Technologies Institute) for a discounted student rate of $200 CAD (regular $800 CAD).

If later you decide to apply for the full program, the course you’ve taken will be applied toward your Certificate as long as it is still part of the program plan at the time of your application. Please note, program requirements are subject to change over time.

  • No pre­req­ui­sites. 
  • Work­ing expe­ri­ence in a relat­ed area is rec­om­mend­ed but not required. 
  • It is also rec­om­mend­ed that par­tic­i­pants have com­plet­ed high school and are pro­fi­cient in English.

This program is comprised of seven required courses, for a total of 168 hours. Five of those courses are also offered as part of three distinct course series (Essentials, Solar Energy, and Wind Energy), so you can start with a Record of Achievement for each series and then ladder those into the certificate as you complete two additional courses.

  • Tuition is paid on a course-by-course basis as you reg­is­ter for your classes.
