Identifies and discusses key access issues and best administrative practices for the successful management and compliance with access to information legislation. Prerequisite: EXIAPP 8171

What you will learn
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Understand the laws governing health information privacy and how they impact health care providers, public bodies with a role in the health care sector, employees/employers, professional regulatory bodies, fundraising, insurers, and researchers.
- Be knowledgeable about policies, practices, laws, and regulations that address confidentiality, privacy, and security of health information.
- Explore topics such as health research, surveillance, public health, and information protection issues.

Your Instructor
Chris StinnerID: chris-stinner
Chris Stinner is a manager, Special Projects and Investigations, with the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta, where he conducts investigations initiated by the commissioner in relation to systemic issues in the field of information access and protection of privacy. Prior to this role, he reviewed privacy impact assessments and privacy breach reports and conducted investigations related to access and privacy compliance issues. Chris has spent a number of years working as a privacy advisor in the health sector, helping physician offices and hospitals comply with information and privacy legislation in Alberta. A bilingual instructor, Chris has contributed to the translation of IAPP course materials into French.
