This course combines field and online exercises in wetland restoration and construction where students learn to design, build and plant wetlands. This course will cover the concepts, applications, planning procedures, and implementation strategies involved in the successful construction of wetlands that look and function like natural wetlands.
Students can expect to learn about:
- Site selection
- Testing soil texture
- Selecting construction techniques
- Establishing desired hydrology and vegetation aspects
- Working with heavy equipment operators
and includes a review of regulatory requirements related to these projects. Topics in peatland restoration will also be covered. The majority of this course takes place in the field where students gain hands-on experience and also includes facilitated online lectures.
