Many designation courses offered at the Faculty of Extension can be used toward credentialed programs such as certificates and citations. In addition, the faculty offers courses and programs that will help you better prepare for specific certification exams, while also being applicable to university-conferred credentials.

All courses are offered through part-time study, with flexible class times and delivery formats that accommodate a variety of schedules.

By successfully completing the Managing Organizational Change (19 PDU hours) and Change Leadership (21 hours) course students will have 40 PDU hours towards their Certified Change Management Professional (CCMPTM) designation.

Geared to certified tradespeople who want to develop their business skills, the Blue Seal program prepares them to move into leadership, supervisory, and entrepreneurial roles.

Courses from UAlberta’s Construction Management & Administration Certificate at the Faculty of Extension are accredited by the Canadian Construction Association (CCA) for Gold Seal certification. The certificate is valued by the construction industry and offers an assurance that the professional has attained a nationally recognized level of competence.

Awarded by the Association of Administrative Professionals (AAP), the CCAP designation is a benchmark of excellence for the advanced administrative professional. Many of the CCAP courses are components of the University of Alberta’s Management Development Certificate program.

Students who complete UAlberta’s Information Access and Protection of Privacy Certificate (IAPP) will be granted the CIAPP Certified designation upon application to the Canadian Institute of Access and Privacy Professionals (CIAPP). The CIAPP Certified designation is the leading certification program for public and private sector access and privacy professionals in Canada.

The Faculty of Extension offers the eight courses required to fulfill the academic requirements of the Certified in Management (CIM) designation. Since all of the CIM courses are components of Extension’s Management Development Certificate, students who complete the eight CIM courses are able to obtain a credential from the University of Alberta at the same time as they work toward their professional designation. The designation is awarded by Canada’s senior management association, the Canadian Institute of Management (CIM).

Completion of UAlberta’s Construction Management & Administration Certificate (CST) provides recognition of select educational requirements toward the Professional Quantity Surveyor (PQS) and Construction Estimator Certified (CEC) designations, which are recognized nationally and internationally.

Certified Local Government Manager

Completion of UAlberta’s National Advanced Certificate in Local Authority Administration (NACLAA Level I and NACLAA Level II) fulfills the educational requirements for the Certified Local Government Manager (CLGM) designation. The CLGM designation is conferred by the Society of Local Government Managers (SLGM), the professional organization that regulates the practices of local government managers in Alberta and ensures that its members act in the local government’s best possible interest.

Energy Safety Canada Certified Safety External Auditor

Completion of UAlberta’s Occupational Health & Safety Certificate program meets the educational pre-requisites required for a safety professional to become an Energy Safety Canada Certified Safety External Auditor. The safety association for Canada’s upstream oil and gas industry, Energy Safety Canada is a not-for-profit formed by a pool of industry associations. External Auditors provide companies with audits for certification or re-certification into the Certificate of Recognition (COR) program.
