How to Register in a Course

Our courses are open to everyone

You do not need to be a University of Alberta degree student if you're taking individual courses. Note that courses may have prerequisites.

Can I register if there is a course prerequisite?

If you are registering in a course for which a prerequisite is listed, you must meet the prerequisite requirements. A grade of D is the minimum grade for a course to be acceptable as a prerequisite.
(Please note: Students must obtain a cumulative program GPA of 2.0 to be eligible for graduation).

Prerequisite requirements may be waived with the written approval of the program that offers the course. If you are not sure that you meet the prerequisite requirements in a course, or who wish to obtain permission to have a prerequisite waived, you should consult the program offering the course.

Online and Continuing Education may cancel the registration of students in courses offered by the departments who do not meet the prerequisite requirements as stated in the course description.

When should I register?

Look for the "open for registration until …" date on any given course page. Register at least one week before the course start date to secure your spot. If space is available you may register until the day the course starts.


What if the course gets cancelled?

Online and Continuing Education reserves the right to cancel courses due to insufficient registration. We will make every effort to inform you of cancelled classes. Please ensure your address, phone number and email is kept current on your file (log into Bear Tracks to update your contact information). Notices of course cancellations are sent to your UofA email account.


What if I wish to cancel/withdraw from the course?

Students can withdraw from courses in two ways: online or via email. See our withdrawal policies.

Find your course, add it to the cart, then register and pay (by credit card) online:

Submit a registration form and fee payment online at uab.ca/ask.

In-Person

Submit a registration form and fee payment at the Student Service Centre located in the Administration Building at the University of Alberta’s North Campus.

Payment options
  • Visa, MasterCard, AMEX, or Discover Card.
  • Cheque, Bank Draft, or Money Order – made payable to the University of Alberta.
  • Interac – if registering in person, during cash office hours.
  • Invoice – please submit an invoice to the Student Service Centre with your registration form.
