OHS Healthy Workplaces Award
Deadline to Apply: May 1
Eligibility: The award is restricted to current students of the University of Alberta in the following Online and Continuing Extension programs: Occupational Health and Safety Certificate and/or Professional Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety. Current students are those who have not yet graduated at the time of submission.
Award Amount: Two winning essays will be selected and the recipients will each receive a $1000 award.
Description: Students must write a 1500 to 2000 word essay that identifies a psycho-social or mental-health concern in the workplace (i.e. burnout, compassion fatigue, stress, vicarious trauma, bullying), and demonstrates and discusses a strategic solution with details on how you would implement it.

Assessment Criteria: The essay judges are members of the wellness community (from industry and government) who have experience in workplace wellness.
Your essay will be evaluated according to the following criteria:
- Interest: Writing exhibits originality of thought, analytical acuteness, and overall coherence of exposition. (60%)
- Organization: Each paragraph develops one idea and contributes to an understanding of the main idea or thesis. (30%)
- Correctness of Style: The language exhibits a strong, individualized voice that is free from distracting grammatical and mechanical mistakes. (10%)
