Learn the prin­ci­ples of Uni­ver­sal Design or inclu­sive design.” You will come to think of design in new ways by becom­ing aware of the impact uni­ver­sal design has had on the past, present, and future of res­i­den­tial hous­ing design. We will focus on max­i­miz­ing util­i­ty with the ulti­mate goal of look­ing at design projects that accom­mo­date peo­ple’s needs regard­less of age, abil­i­ty, or circumstance.

Syn­chro­nous online learning, eClass

In synchronous online courses, students move through the course material at the same pace as their peers. These courses also provide learners with pre-scheduled online lectures that have the instructor and students interacting at the same time. Lara Pinchbeck is an industry expert who guides interior design processes to create social and physical environments that include, rather than exclude, people—particularly those with disabilities. With over 20 years of experience working with marginalized people, Lara excels in her approach to understanding the lived experience of a diversity of users through a multi-method research program that includes published evidence, recorded observations, and personal accounts. Through her doctoral research, Lara works with industry leaders, avant-garde thinkers, collaborators and those moved to make our society as inclusive as possible. She believes that everyone deserves a maximum quality of life achievable by removing barriers that inhibit functionality, comfort, and joy.
