Surface and Textile Design

Sur­face and Tex­tile Design is an intro­duc­to­ry stu­dio course in var­i­ous meth­ods of design­ing pat­tern and print­ing and dye­ing tex­tiles. The focus will be on learn­ing the steps in design­ing tex­tiles and cre­at­ing pieces of work using one or two of these tech­niques. Tra­di­tion­al meth­ods of tex­tile design such as batik, shi­bori, and silk paint­ing will be stud­ied. Stu­dents will gain knowl­edge of the design process includ­ing visu­al­iza­tion, com­mu­ni­ca­tion, inspi­ra­tion and influ­ence. Com­ple­tion of EXRI 4678 is recommended.
