Business Continuity Planning

This sem­i­nar will pro­vide par­tic­i­pants an overview of busi­ness con­ti­nu­ity plan­ning (BCP) method­ol­o­gy and best prac­tices that can be applied to any orga­ni­za­tions’ busi­ness con­ti­nu­ity pro­gram and sub­se­quent plans that sup­port con­ti­nu­ity activ­i­ties. Link­ages between the appli­ca­tion and inte­gra­tion of estab­lish­ing needs, ideas, gov­er­nance and process­es for an effec­tive BCP will be dis­cussed, as well as cri­sis com­mu­ni­ca­tion, exer­cis­es and BCP audit­ing. This sem­i­nar will be ben­e­fi­cial for indi­vid­u­als with an indi­rect of sup­ple­men­tary role in the devel­op­ment and main­te­nance of BCP’s for any­one involved in an orga­ni­za­tions’ emer­gency man­age­ment function.

What you will learn

By the end of this course, you should be able to:

  • Develop a Business Continuity Planning (BCP) governance model for your organization.
  • Establish needs in order to gain support from senior leadership for BCP.
  • Complete a risk assessment and business impact analysis.
  • Develop a Business Continuity Plan for your organization.
  • Identify strategies to bring awareness of BCP to your organization.
  • Train staff on your BCP.
  • Perform an exercise in order to validate a BCP.
  • Maintain the BCP.
This course has no prerequisites

Students from all educational backgrounds welcome. You can register for this course without applying and enrolling in a program.

Take note:

  • Pre-course work is required for this course; advanced registration is recommended.
  • At the end of day two, students will be required to complete an in-class, open-book quiz that allows students to demonstrate their learning.
  • Students are strongly encouraged to have a copy of Alberta’s OHS Act, Regulation and Code. Digital copies of the Act can be acquired free of charge at the Alberta Queen’s Printer website (www.qp.alberta.ca).
