What you will learn
- Explain the key aspects of each of the pillars of emergency management.
- Relate how the pillars of emergency management are connected and work collaboratively.
- Show how the requirements listed in the CSA Standard have been addressed or omitted when reviewing an organization's program or its response to an emergency event.
- Use the CSA Standard Z1600-17 to build a basic emergency management and business continuity program.

In asynchronous online courses, students are expected to move through the course material at the same pace as their peers, but there are no real-time virtual classroom sessions to attend. Currently Director of Emergency Management Services for the Alberta Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Brad Andres has extensive experience in safety and emergency management. He was a Safety Officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force and later worked as an Emergency Management Officer for the Government of Alberta, where he was responsible for coordinating support from all government departments for communities that were impacted by emergencies and disasters such as pipeline breaks, flooding, and ice storms. In his current role, Brad makes sure that the department has the appropriate response plans in place, as well as staff trained and equipment ready to respond to any animal disease, crop pest, and food safety incidents and emergencies.
