Business Continuity Planning
This seminar will provide participants an overview of business continuity planning (BCP) methodology and best practices that can be applied to any organizations’ business continuity program and subsequent plans that support continuity activities. Linkages between the application and integration of establishing needs, ideas, governance and processes for an effective BCP will be discussed, as well as crisis communication, exercises and BCP auditing. This seminar will be beneficial for individuals with an indirect of supplementary role in the development and maintenance of BCP’s for anyone involved in an organizations’ emergency management function.

- Aimed at entry-level and practicing health and safety coordinators, professionals, officers, technicians, supervisors, trainers, management, and administrators.
What you will learn
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
- Develop a Business Continuity Planning (BCP) governance model for your organization.
- Establish needs in order to gain support from senior leadership for BCP.
- Complete a risk assessment and business impact analysis.
- Develop a Business Continuity Plan for your organization.
- Identify strategies to bring awareness of BCP to your organization.
- Train staff on your BCP.
- Perform an exercise in order to validate a BCP.
- Maintain the BCP.
This course has no prerequisites
Students from all educational backgrounds welcome. You can register for this course without applying and enrolling in a program.
Take note:
- Pre-course work is required for this course; advanced registration is recommended.
- At the end of day two, students will be required to complete an in-class, open-book quiz that allows students to demonstrate their learning.
- Students are strongly encouraged to have a copy of Alberta’s OHS Act, Regulation and Code. Digital copies of the Act can be acquired free of charge at the Alberta Queen’s Printer website (www.qp.alberta.ca).
