In this class con­duct­ed entire­ly in Amer­i­can Sign Lan­guage, you¿ll con­sol­i­date and expand your mas­tery of ASL, as you become capa­ble of car­ry­ing on con­ver­sa­tions about every­day top­ics in a vari­ety of con­texts. Take your ASL recep­tive and expres­sive skills beyond the basics and increase your com­fort lev­el with com­mon inter­per­son­al inter­ac­tions. Deep­en your under­stand­ing of Deaf cul­ture and the Deaf community.

Rouzbeh Ghahreman was born Deaf in Iran, where he completed a master’s degree in History. Before immigrating to Canada, he was involved in the publication of a dictionary of Farsi Sign Language and with the first Encyclopedia of the Deaf in Iran. Once in Canada, he completed a master's degree in Special Education with a focus on Deaf Education at the U of A. For the past decade, Rouzbeh has been teaching in different educational institutions, delivering courses in Deaf education, American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture, and ESL to Deaf newcomers. Rouzbeh always reminds his students that members of the Deaf community do not consider themselves disabled, but rather as a part of a unique linguistic group with a distinct culture.
