- An ASL interpreter will be available for the first class to facilitate questions about the course. Subsequent classes will be taught in ASL exclusively. Further communication with the instructor will be through chat (during live sessions) and email (outside of class hours).

Your Instructor
Rouzbeh Ghahreman
Rouzbeh Ghahreman was born Deaf in Iran, where he completed a master’s degree in History. Before immigrating to Canada, he was involved in the publication of a dictionary of Farsi Sign Language and with the first Encyclopedia of the Deaf in Iran. Once in Canada, he completed a master's degree in Special Education with a focus on Deaf Education at the U of A. For the past decade, Rouzbeh has been teaching in different educational institutions, delivering courses in Deaf education, American Sign Language (ASL), Deaf culture, and ESL to Deaf newcomers. Rouzbeh always reminds his students that members of the Deaf community do not consider themselves disabled, but rather as a part of a unique linguistic group with a distinct culture.
