Writing What You Know: Techniques in Creative Nonfiction

Writ­ing cre­ative non­fic­tion begins with an inten­sive explo­ration of peo­ple, places and events we already know but often ignore. Join us for an excit­ing and inter­ac­tive work­shop, explor­ing our lives through writ­ing and read­ing, tech­niques and cri­tiques. Jour­nal­ing, mem­oir, food and trav­el writ­ing will be included.

Your Instructor

Wendy McGrathID: wendy-mcgrath

Wendy McGrath is a Métis writer and artist based in amiskwacîwâskahikan (Edmonton) on Treaty 6 Territory. Her writing and artistic practice embrace multiple genres. Broke City, the final book in her Santa Rosa Trilogy, is a prairie gothic novel that chronicles the struggles of a working-class family. Her latest poetry project, Paso doble, is a poetry/photography collaboration with Danny Miles (drummer for July Talk and Tongue Helmet). Her most recent spoken word project, Before We Knew, is her second album project with producer and musician Sascha Liebrand. McGrath is also a printmaker who creates artists’ books.
