Introduction to Creative Writing

This is a course for writ­ers who are start­ing out and want to expe­ri­ence the range and poten­tial of the var­i­ous forms of writ­ing. We will look at poet­ry, fic­tion and cre­ative non-fic­tion. Facil­i­tat­ed through a dis­cus­sion of the lit­er­a­ture of the past and present the main focus of this course will be on explor­ing your own cre­ative writing.

Students from all educational backgrounds welcome. You can register for this course without applying and enrolling in a program.

Your Instructor

Jennifer Delisle

Jennifer Bowering Delisle (she/her) is the author of The Bosun Chair (NeWest 2017), a hybrid of family memoir and poetry, and The Newfoundland Diaspora (Wilfrid Laurier UP 2012), a study of the literature of Newfoundland out-migration. Her poetry and prose have been published in magazines and anthologies across North America. Jennifer has a Ph.D. in English from the University of British Columbia and has taught at UBC, the University of Alberta, and Douglas College. She recently joined the board of NeWest Press.

In synchronous online courses, students move through the course material at the same pace as their peers.
