Urban Citizenship and Place Making

Through an explo­ration of cur­rent devel­op­ments in par­tic­i­pa­to­ry place­mak­ing, this course pro­vides oppor­tu­ni­ties for learn­ing about, and inspir­ing, the inno­va­tion of active forms of cit­i­zen engage­ment with­in urban envi­ron­ments. Stu­dents will acquire knowl­edge of both the con­cep­tu­al under­stand­ing of cities as vibrant social and cul­tur­al geo­gra­phies, as well as emer­gent areas of engage­ment prac­tice, includ­ing col­lab­o­ra­tive place­mak­ing, urban tour­ing and com­mu­ni­ty mapping.
