Prairie-Urbanism
What are the local circumstances, values, and ambitions shaping the urban transformations of Canada’s prairie cities? How can place-based perspectives inform unique forms of urbanism which contribute to the resiliency and prosperity of cities such as Edmonton, Saskatoon or Calgary? In this course students will explore responses to questions such as these in relation to the concept of prairie-urbanism. Topics include: the history of urban development in the prairies; current priorities for shaping positive urbanisation today (for instance, in relation to sustainability, economic diversification, and social equity); and methodologies for place-based urbanism.
