Indigenous Leadership: from Transaction to Transformation

This course explores Indige­nous Lead­er­ship from a broad per­spec­tive includ­ing the impact of Colo­nial Leg­is­la­tion (Indi­an Act Elec­tion) on Indige­nous Lead­er­ship prac­tices. Tra­di­tion­al­ly, Indige­nous lead­er­ship was inclu­sive, includ­ing women, chil­dren, and elders in deci­sion mak­ing. Lead­er­ship prac­tices today focus on elect­ed lead­er­ship voic­es and deci­sion mak­ing mov­ing away form col­lec­tive com­mu­ni­ty based deci­sions. Today, Indige­nous Nations, indus­try and var­i­ous lev­els of Gov­ern­ment inter­face. How those engage­ments occur can be impact­ed by how lead­er­ship is practices.
