The Citation in Applied Geostatistics fits an important niche between the conventional one-week short course and the 2‑year master’s degree program. It is ideally suited to those from industry who seek a more in depth understanding of modern geostatistical tools. Restricted to Applied Geostatistics program students.
Course at a glance
- Course Dates: May 23-September 29, 2023; Class Dates: May 23-26, June 19-22, July 17-20 and August 14-17, 2023 | 8:30 am - 4:30 pm. This course crosses over two terms, and students will be registered into the Summer section of classes (July/August) after registering into the course.
- This 170-hour course constitutes the entirety of the Citation Program in Applied Geostatistics (CPAG) and provides learners with knowledge and skills that will allow them to better quantify resources and reserves.
- Aimed at geoscientists, as well as mining and petroleum engineers.
- Participants are required to hold a minimum of an undergraduate degree (bachelor’s degree in engineering, geoscience, or related field). Official transcripts or approved alternative proof of admission requirements compliance must be received prior to course registration.
What you will learn
Building on your experience and prior education, this course will help you to:
- Understand the place of geostatistical models of heterogeneity and uncertainty in modern resource/reserve evaluation.
- Explore and apply simulation/uncertainty management concepts.
- Acquire knowledge in topics such as geologic rock types and stochastic modeling, trends and non-stationarity, variograms for spatial continuity modeling, kriging for optimal estimation of resources, and multivariate modeling.
- Learn about important geostatistical concepts and tools.
- Apply specialized knowledge and skills for enhanced job performance and career advancement.

- Participants are expected to spend 60 hours on lecture material, 40 hours on informal learning and interaction, and up to 90 hours on the course required exercises. The time required for exercises could exceed this amount if customized to a project. A total of 16 comprehensive assignments will be distributed.
- Registration must be completed no later than one week prior to course start date. Corporate invoicing for course fees is not available; full payment is due at registration.
